Welcome To This Article – How To Start A Blog, Step-By-Step Guide.
Table of Contents
Just a few months ago I was wanting to start a blog but not to sure exactly where or how to start a blog, after watching many videos on Youtube and also researching on Google I realized I was over complicating the whole thing.
The simple truth is you don’t need any technical or special skills to start your very own blog.
In this article, I will show you how to start a blog step-by-step.
You can start a blog from as little as $4 or £3 a month, and these normally included a free domain name for your blog too. (Whats a domain I hear you say) Don’t worry we will cover this 🙂
Click here to start your very own WordPress Blog and then follow the below step by step guide.
In this article, you will learn everything needed to start your own WordPress blog and I have broken it down into 3 easy steps for you.
Are you ready to start your own blog?
Blogging For Beginners – How to start a blog guide:
Step 1 – Register a domain name.
You can click here to purchase a domain name and start creating your blog
This is the name that your visitors will type into Google to find you. So mine is www.nottaughtatschool.co.uk
Picking a name – This is tough and sometimes you think you have the perfect name only to go and register it to find someone has it all ready. Try picking out at least two names just to be on the safe side.
Now, remember your name should be memorable and relate to your blog in some way shape or form.
Step 2- Buy hosting for your blog.
Now you have your domain name all sorted, next you need hosting, but what is hosting? Think of your hosting as the landlord or landlady of your blog. You need to pay a small fee each month for where your blog shall live on the internet.
Hosting – I would start with the basic pack to get you started on your blogging journey. If you want to change this later then you can and you just pay the difference.
You can also get a few extras…
The only one I would really recommend is Domain Privacy Protection, this is so that your contact information stays safe.
However, people do also like to get the search engine jump start as it comes with the following benefits.
- Rapid Indexing – Get on Google, Yahoo, and Bing in days, not months.
- Head-to-Head Comparative Analysis Report – Comparison of critical ranking criteria to improve your rankings.
- Step-by-Step DIY SEO Program – Improve your SEO rankings yourself. Let us show you how.
- Search Engine Mastery EBook – Fundamental techniques in an ebook. Read at your own pace.
I would recommend you go with at least a 12-month hosting plan, by signing up for 12 months you get a free domain name, lower hosting fees and also not have to worry that your website will expire after each month.
However you can choose to pay monthly if you want, I would just remember it is more expensive, and if you forget to renew after a month your site will go down.
Blogging for beginners – The Set Up.

4 – Next you will be taken to the payment page to fill in all your details.
5 – Finally you will be asked to enter a password. Use a strong password for this.
Step 3 – Installing WordPress
This is the best bit! WordPress is, without doubt, the number 1 place all bloggers go to set everything up, you can easily customize your blog, add lots of features and much more.
Log into Bluehost and go to your cPanel, then click on install WordPress (Third box down on the left-hand side)
Next, you will be directed to install the latest version of word press, click the start button.
Next, you select the domain name to install on WordPress, click the drop-down box and select your domain you want to use.
Nearly done setting up your blog.
The next screen you will see is advanced options, here is where you choose your own username and also password, this is how you will log into your blog.
Please please please don't use Admin as your username.
Use something unique and try a combination of numbers, symbols, and caps locked letters. Next click install now
Congratulations!!!! You now have your very own blog.
